I guess it does seem a little random to choose essentially what could be deemed as a flying bug and then the fact that it is very precisely an orange one.
Long before I opened what you now know as An Orange Dragonfly I used to work from home at nights with my beauty therapy doing waxing, tinting, facials and nails but I never really had a name in those days. I shelved all things beauty related because I moved house and soon after started my ever expanding family.
Fast forward and I find myself qualified in my disciplines I set out for almost 20 years ago and had talked myself out of. In the midst of this my Granny had taken unexpectedly ill and after a some short months she passed away. During the time she was ill I would visit to paint her nails and work with her arm and hand that had become locked and was causing her discomfort. It was seeing the improvement in her movements and ease of pain that prompted me to get out and do what I am now doing.
I seen the way physically it had improvement the arm / hand movement and then blood circulation but what always stuck the most was the emotional improvements. She was less agitated and began to smile as the movement freed. It really made me think about how treatments can benefit more than the physical.

I spent and continue to spend my time researching the emotional and spiritual benefits of treatments and I really wanted something about my business name to reflect all these things tied together.
In the days after my Granny had passed away I kept seeing dragonflies - something I had never seen here in my home country - only ever in Greece as a child. Greece was also the country I associate with her as we spent summer holidays there most years. Then one night I had a dream, there was this most majestic orange dragonfly that completely mesmerized me.
Symbolic images and meanings are everywhere you just need to tune in and see. For me they are a huge part of my life. They can answer questions we have rattling around our heads, they are the comfort when we need it, they are the reminder that we are ok and there is joy to be had. Whether it's a song on the radio with impeccable timing, a white feather in your path or a few words overheard from passers by, they are there for us all.
Dragonflies are the symbol of soul expression, of change and transformation. They are about breaking free from old ways and revealing paths of freedom. Exactly what I felt the therapies would bring to clients.
Orange dragonflies are about warmth, balance and enthusiasm. My therapies are all centered around clients - their needs physically and emotionally - the need for balance. Restoring balance physically and emotionally.
The enthusiasm part comes from me and my love for what I do and also from the clients when they have felt the freedom from a physical pain, had rest and found peace to breathe for a while.
The orange dragonfly perfectly ties every aspect of what I am about and what my business is about. Physical and emotional are intrinsically linked within us, is it time to start giving up some of the pain and discomfort?
